Birch and Sparkling Water, watercolour, 2013

If I had a cottage I know I would spend hours staring at the water diamonds that dance around in the morning or late afternoon. I have tried to capture that shimmering effect many times in paintings. Here the white sparkles and highlights contrast sharply with the deep blue of the water. Since the sun is behind the tree, the greens are lighter at the edges of the leaf clusters and darker and more shadowed towards the center. This is Baptiste Lake near Bancroft and the rocks on the shoreline are blue, pink and grey granite.

Available as a 9"x11.75" print, $40. Please contact Ketha for details.
